Speaking of Ikea...

I thought I would do a quick info-session on Ikea.

A lot of people say Ikea is cheap because the furniture is bad quality.
If that were true, Ikea would have been out of business a long time ago.
The thing is, Ikea is meant for the small space apartments in Europe. That is their main idea.

If I hear someone bad-mouth MDF and particle board furniture, I have to give them a quick info session... The strongest part of wood is the glue. This is why engineered hardwood lasts longer than solid hardwood.
MDF is sawdust mixed with wood glue to form a core. And guess what? It's the strongest. There's no wood to split or to heave, it's really just glue.

Wood veneers came out a long while back so that you can have the most beautiful cut of wood. Wood veneers are what laminate is based on. Almost everything you have has wood or laminate veneer on it!
And guess what? These items are standing the test of time - just don't get it wet (but that's a rule with all wood)!

I've seen people's bed frames fail because it was a plywood core, and even solid wood has heaved and changed - or even broke - over time.
I have more confidence in my Ikea bed frame that was 25% less than your bedroom set from a "quality" furniture store.

And guess what? You will probably want a new one in a couple years anyway, so you may as well pay less!

As far as kitchen cabinets go, most people stay in a house somewhere between 5 to 10 years.
Ikea has a 25 year warranty on their cabinets.
You won't get your money's worth out of those high quality solid wood cabinets. I guarantee that.

What sells is an updated kitchen. Not necessarily an expensive one. So go to Ikea and get some help designing your kitchen - you can always find someone to build them for you in the classifieds (for a price).

GO IKEA!

PS. Anyone watch Bryan Baumler's shows? I can't be 100% but I am 99.99999999% sure he uses Ikea cabinets. Look to him for ideas on how to make the cabinets look custom!
