Loving a Beagle

This has nothing to do with a home (other than what might get damaged), however, this is on my mind every time I see people saying "how cute that beagle is".

This is Sparky

He is positively the sweetest, and cutest beagle puppy I have ever seen.
My boyfriend rescued him from the humane society when he was 1 year old (the dog, not my boyfriend).

When I moved in nearly 2 years ago, I had some transitioning to do...

I had a dog of my own, a yorkie and min pin mix; Mraz. She was very quiet and well trained. The day we put them together, Sparky barked in her ear while she sat there for a full 30 minutes.

My first morning in the house, I made breakfast and lost it to a beagle. I was no where near used to a dog even so much as going near my food, never mind having the dog eat it.
I caught him on the second piece of bread I had out, and fished it right out of his mouth.

I was annoyed and frustrated at the dog until I came to the conclusion to just accept the breed he is, and train myself to adapt to who he was.
Once I made that choice, we suddenly were able to get along.

He is a good dog now. As good as a beagle could be. And I love him.

My main point of this article is that a beagle is a very specific breed.
Not only are they rambunctious, loyal, and cute as ever - they can be a real PIMA (pain in my ass).
However, once you accept who they are - always be on alert for odd noises, let them follow their nose, and keep food and valuables out of his reach - then you will be happy.

It's too sad that so many people get a beagle puppy with their small children, and then can't handle all the crazy and give up the dog. This gives the dog separation anxiety, and it isn't fair.

Please, RESEARCH a dog breed before running out and buying one.

If you don't want your dog on the couch, if you like to have dinner parties, if you have a large and expensive shoe collection, or you don't have a yard - a beagle is not for you.
